Is the City of Petra truly a hidden rock city?

The city of Petra is a hidden rock city. In the late 7th century, the Nabataeans, settle in the valley and built the city of Petra into the sand stone located in a hidden valley located in the southern Kingdom of Jordan. The city is very difficult to reach as one must travel along a very narrow path/road called the Siq or al-Siq (Arabic for The Shaft).

The surrounding area is a highly mountainous and rugged country land. In ancient times this difficult country land and the specific sandstone crevice the city occupies made it very difficult for invaders to attack.

The sandstone rock in this country land, and specifically in the cities location made it easy for the Nabataeans to carve out their buildings, living quarters and worship sites -- much of which is still standing. Despite past earthquakes and other natural dangers -- for which the city was eventually abandoned -- the city ruins remain in great shape for all to witness upon visitation or through the media. The city is long standing and due to its hard to reach nature and rock structure the city is sure to preserve its historical value and continue in it longevity.
